Barn
Controlling
the light in your home can enhance the individual character
and features of every room, whether your home is a brand new
build or 19th Century barn!
Philip and Angela’s brief was
to equip their home with all the capabilities of a modern
property within an ancient framework. They wanted a system
that could enhance the barn’s unique features and allow
them to adapt the feel of their living space through different
lighting scenes.
The iLight system used consisted of 48 channels of dimming
for the internal lighting and a further 4 channels for their
exterior lighting requirements. Due to the variety of light
fittings used throughout the property, three different types
of dimmer were used for optimal control of each load.
Two LCD touch screen control panels were used to provide total
control of all lighting. These were positioned on the ground
floor main space and on the bridge near the master bedroom.
The graphical layouts on these panels enable all areas of
the barn to be accessed and adjusted using simple icons.
Local push-button controls were positioned in kitchen, bedrooms,
bathrooms and cloakroom. These were finished in stainless
steel to complement the contemporary structures within the
space.
In the main living space a DELTALIGHT "Chameleon"
colour change fitting was integrated into the iLight system.
This feature allows the creation of a full spectrum of colours
via the LCD touch screen or lounge push button control plate.
The external lighting requirements were controlled using an
automatic astronomical time clock, allowing the external lighting
scenes to automatically adapt to the ever-changing lengths
of daylight.
The lighting system not only had to control all the lighting
throughout the house, garden and granary but also interface
with the other home controls systems they specified. SmartKontrols
provide heating and ventilation control via the home PC network,
and it is possible to select lighting scenes via the SmartKontrols
software.
Through the appropriate choice of equipment and use of latest
control technology iLight has provided Philip and Angela with
an intelligent and sophisticated lighting control system.
Although their original vision for the barn has now been realised,
the flexibility of the system will enable them to continually
adapt and develop their lighting for years to come.
